New Cuban Cell Phones2008 Cuban BagPhone
¿Puede usted ahora oírme? (Can you hear me now?)

Friday, March 28, 2008 – HAVANA (AP) – First microwaves, now cell phones. Is this the new Cuba? Raul Castro is revolutionizing his brother’s island in small but significant ways – the latest in a decree Friday allowing ordinary Cubans to have cell phone service, a luxury previously reserved for the select few. The new president could be betting greater access to such modern gadgets will quell demand for deeper change. Because nothing helps you forget that you are in a Communist hell hole like a cell phone so you can call all the other oppressed people in your country and talk about your new microwaves or call the service garage to get your 1956 Chevy Bel Air repaired.

Mobile phones ‘more dangerous than smoking’

By Geoffrey Lean – The Independent
Sunday, 30 March 2008

Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an award-winning cancer expert has concluded. He says people should avoid using them wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must take “immediate steps” to reduce exposure to their radiation.

The study, by Dr Vini Khurana, is the most devastating indictment yet published of the health risks. Well Great, how much does that stink, 2 days ago, the Cubans get a break from Fidel’s brother and can finally have cell phones only to find out that soon they are going to have to give up smoking and their asbestos just to minimise their health risks.
